“Visitors receive one six-pack of annual flowers with a five-dollar purchase at each participating business while supplies last.  And there is no limit on the number of stores that may be visited.  Carriers for the flowers and a list of participating businesses will be available from the participating merchants,” said Donna Poe, executive director of Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District.
In addition to the annual flowers gift-with-purchase, participating businesses will also serve refreshments, offer discounts on selected merchandise or offer other in-store specials. Participating businesses will also give annual flower six-packs to anyone who would like to make a five-dollar donation to help the families of the victims of the February 7 shootings at Kirkwood City Hall.
Garden enthusiasts will be able to take advantage of the Gardening Center located in front of Kirkwood City Hall in the Reim Plaza. Activities will include Kirkwood Garden Club’s plant sale and the sale of Mexican Petunias to benefit downtown Kirkwood enhancement efforts.  Representatives from Kirkwood in BLOOM, Grow Native, the Kirkwood Urban Forestry Commission, Gateway Gardener, St. Louis Master Gardeners and Kirkwood Historical Society will also be on hand to visit and answer your gardening questions.
During the Festival of Food and Flowers, artists will show and sell their work at “Artists in Bloom” on the plaza at Kirkwood Station Plaza in which Kirkwood Area Arts Council will also participate.  Don’t miss the Maple Jam Band, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Lucille Rapp Dancers perform at 1:00 p.m.; and House of Bishops from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. on the performance platform at Station Plaza.  Kirkwood School District orchestra students will be performing at various locations throughout downtown Kirkwood from 10:00 a.m. to noon during the festival.
Kirkwood Farmers’ Market will feature hundreds of flowering spring plants, locally-grown fresh food and special treats.  The farmers’ market restaurants, Babalu’s Snack Shack and Café Manila will offer delicious lunch choices.  A crawfish boil at the market is also planned.  Additionally, hungry festival goers will enjoy the collection of unique restaurants located throughout downtown Kirkwood.
The Festival of Food & Flowers, coordinated by Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District Advisory Commission, serves businesses and property owners in downtown Kirkwood through marketing, public area enhancements and administration of Kirkwood Farmers’ Market.
A listing of participating businesses is available by visiting Downtown Kirkwood’s website—www.downtownkirkwood.com.
